When we observe the electron by placing detectors at the slits, it is forced into revealing its location which causes the probability wave to collapse into a particle. While Bohr’s model was obviously successful, it seemed to pull some new principles out of the air, and those principles contradicted principles of classical physics. However, Huygens' theory could not explain why light travels in straight lines or casts sharp shadows. However we get the essential idea if we idealize each particle as living in a one dimensional space: a one dimensional A space and a one dimensional B space.

It is possible to specify where an electron is at a given moment, but we cannot then impose on it a specific speed and direction at the setting-off. Even though the position of an electron is uncertain, quantum theory prohibits the electron from being at some places. The fundamental particles are still quantum, but averages over them cancel out and indeterminacy in their positions and velocities Δx Δv approaches zero as h / m approaches zero.

If one has two entangled systems, one can perform measurements on one of the systems and thereby learn the properties of the other. The properties of sufficiently dense quark matter have now been understood from first principles, but many interesting questions remain to be answered at lower densities. BRIAN GREENE: If string theory is the one true theory of the universe, it will have to solve the riddle of the big bang. It replaces forces and masses with different sets of objects. One of the most remarkable features of this projection is that the actual event which manifests in any given case is determined only by probability.
